"Jardin de las Gorgonias"

depth range: 50 feet

features: small wall from 6 to 15 m, ideal place for feeding.

A shallow garden with an abundance of gorgonians, even for Cuba! As the sites name suggests, this area is crammed with gorgonians, and has created a stunning and picturesque environment. This area is also home to a proliferation of other sponges and coral, and houses a mass of marine fish species such as yellowtail snappers, green morays, as well as baloonfish, boxfish and huge Nassau groupers.

This is a very popular site because of its accessibility, ease of diving, and the abundance and variety of life, even if this doesn’t include some of the bigger aquatic species that are resident to Caribbean waters. Visibility is generally good; exceeding 30m, and this also helps make it an ideal site for all abilities of diver and an excellent spot for beginners.

The maximum depth dived is approximately 15m, and visibility is generally 15-20m. The site is suitable for intermediate to advanced divers, although care must be taken, as currents can be quite strong and unpredictable at times.

Nigel Alexander Hunt

Welcome to my site dedicated to María La Gorda International Diving Center. I am "poco a poco" researching and updating it with the aim to provide as complete as possible record of the hotel's ancient and recent history; bearing in mind that the goings-on today may one day be of historical interest.

My site is NOT the official website of the current hotel operator, and is by no means endorsed by them; but I am grateful for their help with the research and supplying some of the photographs.

You can make from this site room reservations through the Bizloco eTravel System operated by Cubaism Ltd which has a direct contract with the current hotel operator.

Best wishes for

Nigel Alexander Hunt
